We recently entered our range of pies into the hotly contested British Pie Awards in Malton Mowbray.
With over 950 entrants the competition was tough.
Our Steak and cheese pie made it in to the top 3 and received a Gold Award for Britain's best Pub pie which we were stoked about!
Its awesome that New Zealand's National dish is finally getting some recognition in the UK. We have been spreading the word for the last 3 years at shows and festivals. There is usually a raised eyebrow or two about the combination but once the Uk public try it they can't get enough of it!

MIKE’S CHILLI BEEF WAS LAUNCHED IN SEPTEMBER AND HAS BEEN A GREAT SUCCESS WITH CONSUMERS WHO JUST LOVE THAT INTENSE AND SMOKY CHILLI KICK COMBINED WITH THE CREAMY TEXTURE OF BUTTER BEANS -- A WINNER.
AFTER SOME FINE-TUNING , WE’VE NOW RELEASED THE VEGETARIAN PIE WITH LAYERS OF SWEET POTATO , SPINACH , GOATS CHEESE AND TOPPED OFF WITH SWEET CARAMELISED SHALLOTS. IT TAKES LONGER TO DESCRIBE THE PIE THAN TO EAT IT ! IT HAS A NICE BLEND OF QUITE SUBTLE FLAVOURS AND THIS PIE COMPLETES THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN -- OUR RANGE OF 7 GOURMET PIES.

WE ATTENDED THE LIVING NORTH XMAS FAIR IN NEWCASTLE AND HAD A GREAT 3 DAYS FLOGGING OUR PIES TO A HUNGRY PUBLIC. THE EVENT GAVE US GREAT VISIBILITY AS A LOCAL PRODUCER OF NEW ZEALAND – INSPIRED GOURMET PIES. WE WERE PLEASED TO SELL OUT MID-AFTERNOON OF THE FINAL DAY. A GREAT SUCCESS.
FOLLOWING THIS , WE QUICKLY DECIDED TO TAKE A STAND AT THE YORKSHIRE LIVING NORTH XMAS FAIR AT HAREWOOD HOUSE NEAR HARROGATE. AS WELL AS SATISFYING YORKSHIRE’S APPETITE FOR PROPER PIES , WE HOPE WE HAVE SPREAD THE STORY OF NZGP MORE WIDELY , OUTSIDE OUR HOME PATCH OF NEWCASTLE , TYNESIDE AND NORTHUMBERLAND.
MORE EVENTS , FAIRS AND FESTIVALS ARE BEING PLANNED. THE PIES HAVE ARRIVED !!

OUR RESIDENT KIWI ( JON) PACKED A VAN WITH PIES AND HEADED SOUTH TO THE CAPITAL , HAVING BEEN INVITED TO A KIWI TAKE ON A TRADITIONAL XMAS MARKET , HOSTED AT NEW ZEALAND HOUSE ON THE CORNER OF HAYMARKET AND PALL MALL -- VERY POSH. AGAIN , OUR PIES GRABBED THE HEADLINES AND A WHOLE HEAP WERE CONSUMED AS WELL AS PURCHASED TO TAKE HOME.
OUR ON-LINE SHOP HAS BEEN UP-AND-RUNNING FOR MANY WEEKS NOW , AND OUR CUSTOMERS SEEM TO LIKE RECEIVING FRESH PIES DELIVERED ON A FRIDAY MORNING BY OUR CARRIER. WE’VE ALSO INTRODUCED GIFT VOUCHERS WHICH ARE REDEEMABLE AGAINST NZGP ON-LINE PURCHASES. WHAT A GREAT GIFT IDEA FOR THAT SPECIAL PIE-LOVER IN YOUR LIFE !

• BAKERY OPERATIONS IN NEW PREMISES.
Good news, our bakery operations have successfully re-located into a modern 5,000sq.ft. Unit in Newcastle and production is in full swing with old and new equipment installed and commissioned. Capacity for pie production has more than trebled and the first pies off the line taste as good as ever.
• FLYING THE FLAG.
In conjunction with the increased production capacity, we have decided to give our refrigerated van a facelift with stunning NZGP livery. You're bound to see it on the streets of Newcastle or the highroads of Northumberland. You really can't miss it. Yes, the pies have definitely arrived.
• SUPPLYING THE FALCONS.
More great news, we have an agreement to supply the Falcons Rugby Club on match days and for special events. Pies are available at booths throughout the ground, before and after the match, as well as during the half-time interval. We will assist in getting sales off the ground by free sampling at the start of the season, providing eye-catching point-of-sales material and by stimulating an awful lot of Facebook and Twitter activity.
• 15 MINUTES OF FAME.
Jon and Mike got some excellent PR exposure for NZGP through a full page article in the Journal September 9th, followed by interviews with BBC TV Look North and with Radio Newcastle. During this “media frenzy”, pies were tasted by passers-by in the street to universal acclaim – best ever. FOLLOWED BY 30 SECONDS on ITV4 during The rugby highlights show Sunday the 18th.
• MAGNIFICENT SEVEN. Sales were launched with only five fillings and two more promised for later = the Magnificent Seven. Well now we have released the new filling recipe “Mike's Chilli Beef”. This has a big chilli hit with some background smokiness and is paired with the creamy texture of butter beans. This one's a real winner – we call it the publican's favourite because it's going to drive up beer and lager consumption. We anticipate the release very soon of the final filling, the spinach, goat’s cheese and caramelised shallots veggie option.
